VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK WINNERS
We received several great nominations, but the individuals with the most nominations were Leanna Barton, Erin Stockton, Lance Voelkel, & Oscar Salinas!! Here are just a few of the reasons why Leanna, Erin, Lance & Oscar exemplified the Stingray’s spirit -
- A 9/10 boy got hurt right before the medley relay and a relay was about to start and would have DQ’ed if Lance didn’t act fast and find a swimmer to replace the hurt boy. Lance took action fast and found a replacement. He’s a great tent dad and was aware! Go Lance!
- Lance was a huge help at Sprint Sizzler. He helped with after meet take down by hauling off & storing tents after the invitational ended. Lance also has been a tremendous help all year long. He goes above and beyond his required duties associated with Parking Lead. You will often find him helping out with Friday Night Setup, After Meet Takedown, and Tent Parent. He has been a huge asset to the swim team in 2024!! Thanks for the awesome work!!
- Erin worked on deck as part of the ready bench crew for the second shift. She was by far the best on deck person who worked the meet. With her normal volunteer slot at home meets assisting with ready bench, I am not sure she even needs to volunteer to meet her volunteer hours. Erin did an excellent job of letting the Starter and Deck Ref know when there were no swimmers in her lanes (1 thru 3). Erin was the leader of the "Go Maria" chant during the 7-8 girls backstroke getting all the on deck kids cheering for a reluctant swimmer. During the freestyle relays, Erin truly shined. When a swimmer on the opposing team exited the pool in tears at the end of his relay leg, Erin consoled him and helped him get his bearings. Immediately thereafter, Erin went back to the ready bench area to help them get the relay swimmers ready as there were no swimmers ready for the next event. She continued to run back and forth between on deck and ready bench until the situation was resolved. Over the last several years, I have seen Erin as a timer and now at ready bench. She genuinely roots for every kid to fulfill their potential no matter which team they are representing. Saturday at Shenandoah she did this and more.
- Ready Bench is a tough volunteer job, but Erin is making it look easy. I love that she enlisted a few big kid helpers to give her a hand keeping the younger swimmers in the correct order for their relays. Very smart!
- Leanna & Erin have Roscoe’s the ready bench this season. They are very organized and keep the kids well informed of where to go. They are super positive, communicate really well and make their job look easy although I think not, it requires a lot of focus.
- Leanna and Erin have done an awesome job as head ready bench this season. This is an important and difficult position that is crucial to the way the meets run, and they stepped in to fill the shoes of Lisa Brewer, continuing her legacy seamlessly. They kept the kids organized and ready with kindness and a smile. Thank you so much, Leanna and Erin! We truly appreciate your hard work!!! You guys did an amazing job.
- Leanna and Erin are so efficient, positive, and friendly - and they've made a HUGE contribution to the team this year by taking over ready bench and making it even better for the swimmers and the on-deck folks. I love that they are BFF's and demonstrate impeccable Stingray spirit. So many rave reviews…
- Oscar signed up for the Sanitation shift at our home meets as well as Friday evening set up and after meet take down. He worked very hard at all the meets to ensure that our trash was taken care of and the bathrooms were clean. At the Friday set ups he worked very hard getting everything ready for our meet the next day. He was constantly moving and asking if there was anything he could do to help. After our meets were over he got right to it and started working on getting the pool back to the way it needed to be. Thank you Oscar for all your hard work!!
We strongly encourage that you and your swimmers begin hydrating Friday and continue to do so throughout the meet.
See you all bright and early Saturday!
